The Russian magazine «Forbes Life» named seven the most amazing places in Russia where tourists should travel soon. One of those is the Arkhangelsk region with it`s wooden architecture and local (pomor) cuisine, which is based on fish, reindeer meat and various drinks from wild berries.

Nowadays there is a tendency to return to the regional and authentic locations and to explore our own culture and geography. For this reason, the magazine «Forbes Life» named the most outstanding places in Russia that correspond to the tendency.

The author thinks, that Arkhangelsk region is a very remarkable place for the traditional architecture and local pomor dishes. Just in half an hour from Arkhangelsk (by car), the largest wooden open-air museum is located, featuring the traditional wooden architecture of Arkhangelsk area. The museum collection consists of unique churches, bell towers, chapels, mills, houses, barns and baths, as well as various furniture, dishes, painted spinning wheels and other details of the daily routine of Pomors from all over the Arkhangelsk region.

 

The best way to explore the Arkhangelsk region is to travel by car. In this case tourists will have an opportunity to visit the town Velsk, which is famous for «Povazhya» painting. Town Kargopol, which attracts visitors by the white-stoned temples and glorious painted clay toy — «kargopolskaya igrushka». Finally, one of the most famous and mysterious spots of the Arkhangelsk region — caves of Pinega.
