Winter wonderland in caves of Pinega
Pinega caves are the most famous karst caves located in the northern part of the Pinezhskiy region. On the right bank of the Pinega River, «Pinezhskiy State Nature Reserve» is located. There are three outstanding nature attractions situated on the territory of the reserve. There are the Singing Stage Cave, the Berezniki Caves and the waterfall next to the Holy Stream.
On the area of the Pinezskiy reserve there are 140 caves, the total length of which is about 50 kilometers. The best time of the year to visit them is the winter season (January — March). Frozen underground halls and sparkling frost on the walls of caves create a memorable experience for the visitors.
Excursion to the Berezniki Caves
Tourists have a chance to visit three caves, which are located on the sides of the canyon Gorodishche, next to the village Bereznik. The caves are accessible only during the winter season.
Excursion to the Pevcheskaya Estrada Cave
This cave consists of two large halls with an underground stream. In a wintertime ice decoration amazes with its diversity: ice columns, crystals, stalactites and stalagmites, perennial ice. In the winter season, this cave becomes a home for bats.
