The historical and memorial museum was established in the honor of the memory of the great Russian scientist Mikhail V. Lomonosov in his hometown Lomonosovo in Kholmogorsky district in 1940.
The museum building was constructed on the site where the Lomonosovs house was supposedly located. Near the building, a pond has been preserved, according to legend, dug by the scientist’s father, Vasily Lomonosov.
The exposition of the museum reflects the history and culture of the Russian North of the 17-18 centuries, tells the biography and discoveries of the encyclopedist and the scientist. The museum has lifetime scientific and literary works of M. V. Lomonosov.
Of particular value are the unique collections of works by the Kholmogory bone cutters and old printed books of the 18th century. The museum also created a permanent rural art gallery of northern artists.
