The monument of architecture – the house heated by a chimneyless stove – is situated in the Bereznik village of the Shadrengskoye settlement of the Velskiy district, 20 km from Velsk. It is a private house belonging to Veniamin Ilich Kubenin. It is situated on a high bank of the Vel river. The house was built in the end of the 18th century, that means, 200 years ago.
Simple and magnificent, warm in winter and cool in summer, the house served as a living place and a workshop for the house keeper and his family. It is the only building of such type, which has preserved on the territory of the Velskiy District.
The interior of the house is characterized by simplicity and practicality: the stove stands near the entrance, and the dining table is situated diagonally to the stove, in the “red corner”. The massive immovable benches stand along the walls, and above them there are the shelfs which are called “polavochniki”. In the house there is a big amount of household items.
The Velsk Regional Studies Museum named after V.F. Kulakov organizes bus excursions to this house. The excursion includes the story of the house, entering the first floor of the house where the winter living place with the preserved chimneyless stove (“black stove” – without the chimney) is situated. The guide tells very exciting and understandable about the arrangement of the rooms and some country utensils.
