In the chronicle of the Transfiguration Cathedral it is mentioned than on the 21st of December 1882 in Yarensk there was a huge snowstorm with the northern wind, “so that the roofs of many houses were blown off”.
In such a night Father Frost and Metelitsa had a daughter, whose name was Zimushka. She liked living in our region so much that she decided to settle in the beautiful ancient house where she stores pickled icicles, conserved northern lights and salted snowballs in birch-bark barrels in her cellar.
Since that time Mother Winter has been living in Yarensk and getting along with its local people and visitors.
In 2012 there appeared one more wonderful place on the Fairytale Map of Russia: it is the Yarensk village of the Arkhangelsk region – the motherland of Mother Winter.
