In the 18th century a stone temple was built to replace a dismantled wooden Uspenskaya Church with the aisle of the Feast of the Cross in the south and the aisle of Simeon Stolpnik in the north. The warm refectory temple with the aisles was consecrated in 1744, and the main one - cold – in 1753 (or 1755). Later the aisles were renamed : the aisle of the Feast of the Cross was renamed as the aisle of the Ascension of Jesus and the aisle of Simeon Stolpnik was named after the Theotokos of Tikhvin.
In 1752 a high multi-layered stone bell tower, which served as a lighthouse was attached to the church in the west.
In the beginning of the 20th century the 32-metres bell tower bent down because the ground dropped down and the tower started to look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
In 1920 Uspenskaya Church was abolished. In 1930s the temple and the bell tower were demolished by the Bolsheviks.
In 2001 the church’s walls and the first floor of the bell tower were erected. In 2004 the domes were set up. On the 28th of August 2008 the Arkhangelsk and Kholmogory bishop Tikhon consecrated the restored temple.
